CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Douglass C. North, a Nobel laureate in economics, will deliver the Edmund James Lecture at the University of Illinois March 30.
His lecture, “Why Isn’t the Whole World Developed?,” begins at 4:30 p.m. in Room 141, Commerce West, 1206 S. Sixth St., Champaign.
North, a professor of economics and history at Washington University in St. Louis, is a leading economic historian. His research stresses the importance of institutions, formal laws and informal norms in shaping economic performance around the world.
His most recent research focuses on how culture as well as history affects the attitudes of leaders about economic development.
