New U. of I. president to deliver lecture on leadership April 11

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – B. Joseph White, the president of the University of Illinois, will deliver the 2005 Leighton Lecture at 4:30 p.m. April 11 (Monday) in 141 Wohlers Hall, 1206 S. Sixth St., Champaign.

The title of his talk is “Leadership, Integrity and Credibility: Lost and Found.” White became president and the James Towey Professor of Business and Leadership at the Illinois College of Business in February.

He had been the Wilbur J. Pierpont Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan and was the dean of the Michigan Business School for 10 years beginning in 1991.

In addition to his academic experience, White served seven years as a vice president at Cummins Engine Co.

The Leighton Lecture is free and open to the public.

Study shows new hope for commercially attractive lithium extraction from spent batteries

A new study shows that lithium — a critical element used in rechargeable batteries and susceptible to supply chain disruption — can be recovered from battery waste using an electrochemically driven recovery process. The method has been tested on commonly used types of lithium-containing batteries and demonstrates economic viability with the potential to simplify operations, minimize costs and increase the sustainability and attractiveness of the recovery process for commercial use.
