Museum’s Winter Tales concert features American Indian storytelling

SleepyEye LaFromboise of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota and Tonawanda Seneca tribes will be the featured storyteller at Spurlock Museum’s Winter Tales concert March 4.

Spurlock Museum of World Cultures at Illinois will hold its annual Winter Tales concert, a celebration of American Indian storytelling, on Sunday, March 4, from 1-2:15 p.m. The featured storyteller is SleepyEye LaFromboise of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota and Tonawanda Seneca tribes. This family concert is free and no advanced reservations are required.

LaFromboise travels extensively, with his work centering on Native American youth empowerment through cultural and spiritual sustainment. His work also focuses on Native American cultural sensitivity and wellness training for organizations, tribes and individuals. He has been a member of the United National Intertribal Youth, Inc. for more than 20 years and applies storytelling through song, prayer and teaching.

Spurlock Museum is located at 600 S. Gregory St., Urbana. On weekends, visitors may park for free in lot D22 (behind the museum) in nonreserved spaces.
