Multitalented entertainer Tia Mowry to speak at Illini Union

Tia Mowry, star of “Sister, Sister” and “The Game,” has been involved in many different facets of the entertainment industry for more than 20 years. She will speak at the Illini Union at 7 p.m. March 31 in the I-Rooms.

Mowry, along with her identical twin sister, Tamera, rose to prominence on the television series “Sister, Sister” for six seasons in the mid-1990s. Tia Mowry won three Kids Choice Awards and two NAACP Image Awards for best actress. She then took a break from acting to obtain her undergraduate degree in psychology from Pepperdine University. She returned to acting, starring in television movies and various projects before landing the role of Melanie on “The Game,” which ran first on The CW and then was picked up by BET.

Tia Mowry continued to expand her repertoire with her national bestselling book, “Oh, Baby!: Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another,” and started a young adult series of books, titled “Twintuition,” with her sister. Tia and Tamera starred in and produced their own reality show for several seasons in 2011 for STYLE, where it broke viewing records for the network.

Tia Mowry just wrapped her second season of “Tia Mowry at Home” on the Cooking Channel, along with the third and final season of TV Land’s “Instant Mom.” She will appear next on Fox’s “Rosewood” and ABC’s “Mistresses.”

Her local appearance will be a question-and-answer format led by Isabel Kadiri, the director of programs for the Illini Union Board. The Illini Union I-Rooms are located in the west wing of the Illini Union. This is a free lecture open to the public.
