Moms Association elects officers, directors

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Dixie Huey, of Effingham, Ill., has been elected president of the Moms Association at the University of Illinois for 2009-10.

The election was held during the Moms Association annual meeting April 18 during Moms Weekend.

The Moms Association, established in 1923, is believed to be one of the nation’s oldest parent organizations.

The association supports programs, services and activities that promote the health, safety and well-being of the university community and serves as the parent liaison to the campus.

Researchers develop a five-minute quality test for sustainable cement industry materials

A new test developed at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign can predict the performance of a new type of cementitious construction material in five minutes — a significant improvement over the current industry standard method, which takes seven or more days to complete. This development is poised to advance the use of next-generation resources called supplementary cementitious materials — or SCMs — by speeding up the quality-check process before leaving the production floor.
