Media advisory: Media passes for commencement available this week

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Members of the news media may pick up stadium passes and parking passes for the University of Illinois commencement at the Office of Public Affairs, 507 E. Green St., Room 319, Champaign, through Friday, May 10, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Commencement takes place at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 11, at 9:30 a.m. U. of I. accountancy graduate Larry Gies will deliver the commencement address.

Gies is the founder and CEO of Madison Industries, an international manufacturing company that is one of the largest privately held companies in the world. He and his wife, Beth, made history in 2017 by giving $150 million, the largest gift in Illinois history, to the leading business school now known as the Gies College of Business.

In addition to the universitywide commencement ceremony, a hooding ceremony for doctoral degree recipients will occur Friday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Foellinger Great Hall in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
