Media advisory: Administrators gear up for Illini 4000 cross-country bicycle ride

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Chancellor Robert Jones, Barry Benson, the vice chancellor for advancement, and University of Illinois Foundation president and CEO Jim Moore Jr. will be presented with bicycle gear by representatives of Illini 4000 at a noon event on Monday, May 7, at the Alma Mater statue, located at the corner of Green and Wright streets, Urbana. The administrators will take part in a portion of the annual cross-country fundraising ride on June 5, pedaling along in a segment of that day’s ride to Urbana-Champaign as a means of raising money for the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and helping to build awareness for Illini 4000.

Illini 4000 is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for cancer research and patient support services through annual cross-country bike rides. Many of the riders are affiliated with the campus.

The riders are scheduled to leave New York City on May 18 and arrive in San Francisco on Aug. 2, covering an average of 70 miles each day.
