CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The top ranked library/information science school in the nation – the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) – is offering a free clinic to any UIUC student, faculty or staff member on one of today’s hottest topics: electronic commerce.
The clinic, “Electronic Commerce in the Information Industries,” will be held April 2-3 at the UI Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, 405 N. Mathews Ave., Urbana.
Distinguished speakers from across the country will examine electronic publishing; new media; ways of assembling information collections and repositories; organizational, market and business models; and social and institutional transformations and impacts.
Allen Renear, director of the Scholarly Technology Group, Brown University, and a participant in the Open E-Book Initiative, will give the keynote talk on “E-Books and Beyond: Information Content Standards for Encoding and Exchange” at 7 p.m. on April 2. Some of the other speakers, all on April 3, and in order of appearance, include:
