Kuklinski honored with career achievement award

James H. Kuklinski, a professor emeritus of political science at Illinois, has been honored with the 2017 Hazel Gaudet Erskine Political Psychology Career Achievement Award, given by the American Political Science Association’s Political Psychology Section.

He will be presented with the award at the Political Psychology Section’s business meeting at APSA on Sept. 1.

The selection committee, which included Nicholas Valentino of the University of Michigan, James Druckman of Northwestern University and Laura Stoker of the University of California, Berkeley, wrote the following about their unanimous decision for the biennial award:

“Jim Kuklinski has made substantial contributions over several decades to multiple subdisciplines within political psychology, especially methodology and political behavior. We are all in his debt, and grateful for his many years of service to his students, his university and the discipline at large.”

Christopher Mooney, the W. Russell Arrington professor of state politics and the director of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs, part of the University of Illinois System, wrote: “This is a tremendous – and well-deserved – honor for Jim. Jim has been the godfather of political psychology for (more than) 40 years. His work and his leadership in the field are among the most important reasons for the flowering of this field, which is now one of the most vibrant, productive and influential in the political science discipline.”
