Kinley lecturer to talk about how the modern financial system works

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – John Geanakoplos, an economist at Yale University, will deliver the second 2005 David Kinley Lecture in Economics at 4 p.m. May 2 (Monday) at 141 Wohlers Hall, 1206 S. Sixth St., Champaign.

His lecture, “How the Modern Financial System Works: Mortgages, Hedge Funds, and Market Crashes,” is based on his experience in Wall Street and insights obtained from his research.

Geanakoplos is the James Tobin Professor of Economics at Yale University and the director of the Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics. Between 1990 and 1995, he was a managing director and the head of fixed income research at Kidder, Peabody & Co. He is a partner at Ellington Capital Management. In 1999, he was awarded the Samuelson Prize for his work on lifetime financial security.

The Kinley Lecture, sponsored by the department of economics, is free and open to the public.
