Jon S. Davis appointed head of accountancy

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Jon S. Davis has been appointed head of the department of accountancy and the R.C. Evans Endowed Chair in Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, pending approval by the U. of I. Board of Trustees.

Davis, a former faculty member at Illinois, will assume his new position on April 16. He previously was the Arthur Andersen Alumni Professor of Accounting and chairman of the department of accounting and information systems at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. From 1994 to 2001, he was a professor of accountancy in the College of Business at Illinois.

Davis received his doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Arizona. He became a certified public accountant in 1981.

His research focuses on issues related to tax policy, particularly in the area of regulatory compliance. His research utilizes methods and theories from psychology, economics and agent-based modeling.

Davis has held leadership positions for the Accounting Accreditation Committee of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the American Taxation Association, the American Accounting Association and other professional organizations. He was a trustee of the American Taxation Association from 1998 to 2000.
