Japan House Mottainai Holiday Bazaar

Many small items of Japanese origin

Some of the many items for sale at the Japan House Holiday Bazaar. All proceeds will benefit the Japan House Internship Program.

Japan House will hold its annual Mottainai Holiday Bazaar this weekend.

The bazaar will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Japan House, 2000 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana.

Mottainai is a Japanese word meaning “what a waste” or “don’t waste” and is a treasured Japanese concept. The bazaar features items donated by friends of Japan House. The items include Asian pottery, kimonos, origami, handmade crafts, quilts, scarves, posters, scrolls, books, prints, tea equipment, jewelry and gift certificates.

 All proceeds will support the Japan House Internship Program.

Visitors to the bazaar can order holiday pies from Cream and Flutter and receive a free miniature pie. Anpan, a traditional Japanese sweet, also will be available.

The bazaar is free and open to the public. It accepts cash, checks and all major credit cards.
