IPRH lecture on interdisciplinary collaboration innovation is April 22

Anne Balsamo, the dean of the School of Media Studies at The New School in New York City, will speak on campus April 22 about the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in innovation.

Balsamo will give a lecture, “Designing Culture: Creating Multidisciplinary Collaboration,” at 11 a.m. April 22 at the NCSA auditorium, 1205 W. Clark St., Urbana. Live streaming of the event will be available.

The lecture is the first in a “Design Dialogues” series initiated by the Recovering Prairie Futures research cluster at the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities. The research cluster is exploring Midwestern innovation and interdisciplinary design developments.

Balsamo will discuss technology-based innovation and the role of the humanities and sciences in cross-disciplinary collaborations focusing on creating new technologies. Her presentation will include ideas from her recent book “Designing Culture: The Technological Imagination at Work.”
