Illinois Fire Service Institute training showcase May 15

The Office of the State Fire Marshal will host the Illinois Fire Service Institute Training Showcase on May 15 outside the Illinois state Capitol in Springfield. The event will provide state legislators with an in-depth look at the training efforts for firefighters taking place throughout the state.

Demonstrations will run continuously on Monroe Street, on the north side of the Capitol building grounds, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The showcase is open to the public.

Illinois Fire Service Institute, the state fire training organization at the University of Illinois, will present hands-on simulations using state-of-the-art training props to showcase how fire service professionals prepare for the challenges they face on the job. IFSI serves as the oldest continuous fire training institution in the U.S. and partners with the OSFM to fund and distribute effective training for firefighters.

“Firefighting is an inherently dangerous activity and it is imperative that our firefighters are trained to work safely and effectively,” said State Fire Marshal Matt Perez.
