Illinois Community Pledge provides common focus on COVID-19 safety

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign students, faculty members and staff are invited to sign a voluntary pledge that reinforces the need for COVID-19-responsible behaviors. Chancellor Robert Jones announced the Illinois Community Pledge today in a message to the university community.

The university is scheduled to resume a combination of in-person and online instruction on Aug. 24, the start of the fall semester.

“I know many of us are eager to resume normal activities, but it is vitally important that we all remain cautious, vigilant and careful by taking these actions consistently. If we each do our part, we can maximize our ability to teach, learn, work and connect,” Jones said. “Signing this pledge shows you value the health of the people around you as much as you value your own health.”

Participants in the pledge confirm their commitment to:

  • Conducting daily personal health checks.
  • Wearing a face covering.
  • Washing hands often.
  • Practicing social distancing.
  • Sanitizing surfaces and equipment.
  • Getting tested regularly.
  • Taking COVID-19 online safety training.
  • Participating in contact-tracing and exposure-notification programs.
  • Adhering to orders and directives from national, state and local health officials.
  • Displaying COVID-19 patience and etiquette in interactions with other people.

Everyone who signs the pledge is encouraged to signal their support on social media with the hashtag #IveGotYouCovered.
