By Jim Barlow Gary L. Rolfe will become head of the department of natural resources and environmental sciences in the UI College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences on April 21. The UI Board of Trustees approved the appointment April 11. Rolfe, who headed the forestry department from 1981 to 1995, has served as the department's interim head since it came into existence in August 1995 as part of the reorganization and renaming of the College of Agriculture. The newly named department took in faculty from horticulture, agricultural entomology, soil science and forestry. Rolfe also will continue to serve as the interim associate director of the Agricultural Experiment Station. He also will hold the rank of professor of natural resources and environmental sciences. Rolfe earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in 1968, 1969 and 1972, respectively, from the UI He joined the faculty as a professor of forestry and of environmental studies in 1972.
