A.M. “Andy” Andrews, 83, died April 17 in Plano, Texas. Andrews was an instructor at the Police Training Institute, retiring in 1986. Memorials: Salvation Army.

Michael Eugene Casey, 75, died April 22 at his Urbana home. Casey worked at the UI for 32 years, retiring in 1991 as a painter at  the Physical Plant.

Stanley Evan Curtis, 68, died April 25 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Curtis was a professor and head of animal sciences. He retired in 2000 as professor emeritus after 30 years.

Donald R. Dickerson, 85, died May 1 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Dickerson was an organic chemist at the Illinois State Geological Survey.

Frances M. “Franky” Day, died Feb. 20 in Gwynedd, Pa. Day was a math instructor at the UI.

John K. Guiher, 93, died April 3 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Guiher was a retired professor of wood technology in the department of forestry, where he worked from 1955 until 1989. Memorials: Champaign County Humane Society, 1911 E. Main St., Urbana, IL 61802.

Walter E. Hanson, 93, died April 4 in Springfield, Ill. Hanson was a professor of civil engineering for 35 years, retiring in 1977. A UI professorship has been established in his name. Memorials: Hanson Family Fund, SCCF, 205 S. Fifth St., Suite 930, Springfield, IL 62701.

Marjorie May Harris, 83, died April 18 at The Moorings, Arlington Heights, Ill. Harris was a faculty member at the UI for 28 years, retiring in 1990. She was the director of the Physical Education Activities Program in the department of kinesiology and community health.

Phyllis Mae Herbsleb, 77, died April 12. Herbsleb retired as a chief clerk with County Farm Extension in 1990.  She worked at the UI for more than 25 years. Memorials: Cornbelt Fire Protection District, P.O. Box 500, Mahomet, IL 61853.

John Louis Hoffman, 80, died April 16 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Hoffman was a professor of engineering at the UI. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association, Michael J. Fox Foundation, UI Alumni Association or Carle Auxiliary Guest House.

George Harry Lanter, 59, died April 15 at his home in St. Joseph, Ill. Lanter retired from the UI in 2004 as a dairy and food plant attendant in the department of food science and human nutrition after 28 years of service. Memorials: Urbana Theological Seminary, 314 E. Daniel St., Champaign, IL 61820, for a scholarship in his name.

Anthony Vattano, 83, died April 26 at the Champaign Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy. Vattano was a professor of clinical social work at the UI from 1962 until his retirement in 1991. Memorials: St. Patrick Catholic Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana, IL 61801.
