Heeter selected as university’s first vice chancellor for finance

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.Aimee Heeter, currently the vice provost for finance and administration at Indiana University, will become the vice chancellor for finance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign effective Aug. 1, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. Her title until officially approved will be vice chancellor for finance designate. Heeter will be the first person to hold this new senior-level position at Illinois.

Heeter brings 23 years of higher education experience from Indiana University, where she was responsible for its $2 billion budget on the flagship campus. Additionally, she oversaw budget planning, financial administration, internal controls, foundation management and auxiliary services.

“Aimee Heeter’s skillset uniquely positions her to understand the financial needs of a large, public institution,” said Chancellor Robert Jones. “Her ability to bridge the gap between financial strategy and academic priorities aligns perfectly with the needs of the vice chancellor for finance position here at Illinois.”

Her previous roles at Indiana University include associate vice provost for finance and budget and assistant vice president for budget. She earned a doctorate in higher education finance, a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, all from Indiana University.

The vice chancellor for finance position retitles the former position of associate chancellor and vice provost for budget and resource planning. This change is in line with the other two campuses in the University of Illinois System. The position will continue to report to both the Provost and Chancellor, ensuring seamless integration within the university’s leadership framework.

What should consumers know about the current health care debate?

Those who wish to overturn the Affordable Care Act have struggled for years to replace it. If Congress fails to pass a better plan or extend ACA subsidies, insurance premiums will skyrocket for millions of Americans next year. The alternative, a proposal to expand health savings accounts, is even more problematic, says University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign health and kinesiology professor emeritus Thomas O’Rourke.
