Graduate student wins Amelia Earhart Fellowship

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Qi Zhu, a University of Illinois graduate student, has been selected for an Amelia Earhart Fellowship from the Zonta International Foundation.

Zhu is pursuing a doctorate in aeronautical and astronautical engineering at the UI. Her research focuses on the thermo-mechanical behavior of composite structures.

Zhu earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering mechanics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, and her master’s degree in structural engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Zonta International awards Earhart fellowships annually to women pursuing graduate studies in aerospace-related sciences and engineering. Thirty-five fellows who exhibit the most promise in advancing the field of aerospace and engineering are selected from applicants worldwide.

Established in 1938, the fellowships honor the legacy of aviation pioneer and Zonta International member Amelia Earhart. Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.
