CHAMPAIGN, Ill. A University of Illinois graduate student in fine and applied arts has received a scholarship from the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
Brooke Marks, a second-year graduate student in the metals program, was awarded a $1,000 Educational Endowment Scholarship for her college expenses. The scholarship is the highest award the society offers to students pursuing careers in metalworking or jewelry studies in North America. She was one of four students who received the scholarship this year.
Marks, who is from Elkhart, Ind., also teaches Level 1 and Level 2 metals courses at the UI.
Founded in 1969, the Society of North American Goldsmiths serves the needs of jewelers, designers and metalsmiths. The organization encourages networking and information exchange within those fields, the promotion of the field to a wider audience and recognition of outstanding creative achievement.
