Grad School rankings announced

The Graduate School of Library and Information Science and the department of civil engineering were ranked first in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report graduate program rankings released March 12.

The magazine ranks business, education, engineering and law schools each year and other programs on a rotating basis, usually every three to four years. Library schools had last been ranked in 2010. Social sciences and humanities also were newly ranked this year, with the graduate program in psychology ranked No. 7, cognitive psychology No. 3, history No. 20, English No. 22, political science No. 23.

The graduate program in engineering was tied for No. 5; education was ranked 19th; business, as well as law, were each ranked No. 47.

Other graduate programs at Illinois rated in the top 10 by the magazine:

In business: accounting (3)

In education: curriculum/instruction (5), educational psychology (5), elementary education (10), special education (8)

In engineering: aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical (7), biological and agricultural (2), computing (4), electrical/electronic/communications (3), environmental/environmental health (3), materials (4), mechanical (7), nuclear (10)

In GSLIS: archives and preservation (9), digital librarianship (2), health librarianship (7), information systems (8), school library media (5), services for children and youth (1)
