Fulmer selected School of Labor and Employment Relations dean

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Ingrid S. Fulmer will be the next dean of the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. The appointment takes effect July 1.

Fulmer is the vice provost for faculty advancement and faculty affairs at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and a professor in human resource management at the School of Management and Labor Relations. She earned a Ph.D. in management and organization studies from Vanderbilt University.

“The future of work and nature of employment are rapidly changing, and Dr. Fulmer is an internationally renowned scholar whose research and expertise on human resource management and organizational behavior will position her to lead the School of LER to even greater impact,” said Illinois Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Andreas Cangellaris. “LER at Illinois is highly respected for the interdisciplinary scholarship of its faculty and the national and global appeal of its educational programs, and with her extensive leadership experience and global understanding of HR issues, Dr. Fulmer is ready and eager to innovate and expand the school’s visibility and reputation.”

Fulmer previously served as the associate dean for academic affairs and director of the Ph.D. program in the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers. She also serves on the board of governors of the Academy of Management and as international co-chairperson of the European Institute of Advanced Studies in Management annual workshop on strategic human resource management.

She is on the editorial boards of several academic journals. In her “first career,” prior to completing her Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University and entering academia, she worked as a CPA and consultant.

Fulmer’s research and teaching are in the areas of human resource management and organizational behavior. Current research interests include compensation system design, pay communication and transparency, valuation of organizational human capital and management of former employees. Her research has been published in a number of journals and edited volumes.

Fulmer succeeds Fritz Drasgow as LER dean. A member of the Illinois faculty since 1982 and a professor of labor and employment relations, Drasgow was appointed interim dean in 2013 and dean in 2014.
