Freshman wins scholarship to study art and design

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Anne Lindberg, Oakbrook Terrace, has been awarded the 2001 Clyde Davis Scholarship to study art and design at the University of Illinois beginning this fall.

Lindberg, who will be a freshman at the UI, is the second recipient of the Davis scholarship, a four-year scholarship that provides an incoming freshman with $12,500 annually. The 2000 scholarship was awarded to Katrina Kruszewski, Lemont, now a UI sophomore.

The Davis scholarship is the largest, single award given to an undergraduate in the UI School of Art and Design. To be eligible to receive it, a student must be a graduate of any high school in the greater Chicago metropolitan area and show a talent for art and graphic design.

The scholarship program was established through a gift by Davis, a senior partner in Cline, Davis and Mann Inc., New York City, a company providing marketing, educational, media and creative services for the health care industry and consumers. Davis is a graduate of the UI’s School of Art and Design.

He funded the scholarship at his alma mater to attract the most talented students from the Chicago area to the design field. The scholarship targets students who, without major financial assistance, might not otherwise be able to pursue a university education. Further, the scholarships purpose is to develop good artists and good citizens.
