Founder Professor wins physics prize

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Steve Granick, Founder Professor of Engineering, and professor of materials science and engineering, of chemistry, of chemical and biomolecular engineering, and of physics, was awarded the Polymer Physics Prize of the American Physical Society.

He was cited for his “pathbreaking and elegant experiments that elucidate the structure and dynamics of polymers and liquids confined by surfaces.”

The prize, presented annually since 1960, is one of the highest honors in physical polymer science in the United States.

This is the second consecutive year an Illinois professor has won the award. Ken Schweizer, professor of chemistry, of chemical and biomolecular engineering, and of materials science and engineering, received the award in 2007.
