Experts to discuss finding work in a sour economy

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – “Positioning Yourself to Meet Challenges of a Down Economy,” a panel discussion on finding work in a tight job market, will take place Feb. 11 at the University of Illinois.

The program begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Business Instructional Facility auditorium, 515 E. Gregory Drive, Champaign. Sponsors are Business Career Services in the university’s College of Business and Phi Gamma Nu, a professional business fraternity.

Panelists are Bob Plecki, a regional president for Busey Bank; finance professor David Sinow, who founded a financial planning company before joining the university; Julie Bartimus, vice president of the Alumni Career Center; Yoo-Seong Song, a professor with the Business & Economics Library; and U. of I. alumnus Patrice Yao.

The panel will discuss questions submitted in advance by students. Topics are expected to include the value of networking, using the Internet and campus resources to find job prospects, and whether students should consider graduate school or fields outside their major if job searches stall.

A question-and-answer period with the audience will follow.
