Earth Week 2016 offers range of events on U. of I. campus

Activities for Earth Week 2016 on the U. of I. campus are being organized by Students for Environmental Concerns. The U. of I. will host several other events leading up to and following the official dates, which are April 18-22.

Some of the week’s highlights are:

  • April 14: David Keeling Lecture, “Climate Change: The Road Through Paris,” 7 p.m., Room 100 Noyes Laboratory, presented by Christopher B. Field, the founding director of the Carnegie science department of global ecology and the Melvin and Joan Lane Professor for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies at Stanford University
  • April 18: Illinois Climate Action Plan Forum, 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m., Illini Union Room 104
  • April 19: Students for Environmental Concerns plant sale, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Main Quad; SEC Environmental Expo, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Illini Union Room A
  • April 20: Campus Tree Walk, noon to 1 p.m., north entrance to the Illini Union;
    Ogura Lecture Series featuring Ken Caldeira, a climate scientist for the Carnegie Institution for Science, 3:30 p.m., NCSA Building auditorium (Room 1122)
  • April 21: Bike tuneups, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Main Quad; Student Sustainability Symposium, 5:30-7 p.m., Illini Union Room 210
  • April 22: Bike ride with Interim Chancellor Barb Wilson, hosted by BikeFace, 9 a.m. (site to be determined)

The week also will feature a film screening, a trivia night, art displays, music performances, volunteer opportunities and more.
