Deaths

Frank Carter, 84, of St. Joseph, Illinois, died April 14 at Clark-Lindsey in Urbana. He was a building service worker at the university. 

Julie Ann Elliott, 74, of Tolono, Illinois, died at her home on April 14. She held various jobs at the university before retiring. Memorials: Tolono Library, call 217-485-5558.

Willard Thouston Garrison, 96, of Monticello, Illinois, died April 16 at Arbor Rose in Monticello. He retired from the university as the assistant superintendent of Building Services.

Ralph L. “Bud” Lieb, 70, of Urbana, died April 14 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He retired from the university as a machinist. Memorials: Champaign County Humane Society, Wounded Warriors or American Cancer Society.

Lottie Russell, 85, of Champaign, died April 13 at home. She worked in the Shelton Laundry at the university. Celebration of Life Services will be held Friday, April 21, at Morning Star Freewill Missionary Baptist Church, 1402 W. Eads St., Urbana. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon and the Homegoing Service will begin at noon.

Nancy “Jan” Scott, 63, of Urbana, died April 17 at Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton, Illinois. She retired as a paralegal with the university’s Legal Counsel Office. Memorials: Vermilion County Animal Shelter, 14775 Catlin Tilton Road, Danville, IL 61834 or St. James United Methodist Church Food Bank, 504 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834.

Melvyn Skvarla, 75, of Champaign, died March 28 in Des Plaines, Illinois. He served as the campus historic preservation officer for 13 years as an employee of Facilities and Services. He was involved with the renovation and preservation of Memorial Stadium, preservation of the iconic 1929 Lorado Taft sculpture of the Alma Mater and the renovation of the mansion at Allerton Park.
