Deaths

James E. Hixon, 78, of Mahomet, Illinois, died June 2. He came to the university in 1977, where he taught until he retired from the College of Veterinary Medicine as a professor emeritus. Memorials: University of Illinois Foundation for student scholarships at the College of Veterinary Medicine or the Barnes Jewish Hospital Organ Transplant Program.

C. Richard “Dick” Nash, 85, of Savoy, Illinois, died May 30 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. In 1961, he began working for the university in administration and business systems. In 1994, he retired as the director of business management systems, overseeing the University of Illinois System. Memorials: The Curtis C. Nash Children’s Creativity Fund or First United Methodist Church, 210 W. Church St., Champaign, IL 61820.

Peggy F. Olsen, 65, of Savoy, Illinois, died June 2 at her home. She worked in civil service at the university.  

Anna May Partenheimer, 89, of Newman, Illinois, died June 4 at the Newman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She worked as a secretary at the university.

Margaret L. Puckette, 89, died June 5 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. She worked at the university as an administrative secretary for more than 30 years.

Donna Franklin Scheibly, 55, of Urbana, died June 6 at home. She worked in the print shop at the university. Memorials: The Muscular Dystrophy Association, 115 N. Neal St., Suite 100, Champaign, IL 61820.

Harvey J. Stapleton, 82, a resident of Longboat Key, Florida, formerly of Champaign, died May 30. He joined the faculty of the university in 1961 as an assistant professor of physics. He retired in 1995 as an associate dean of the Graduate College. Memorials: Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.

Edith A. Wade, 86, of Champaign, died June 3 at her home. She worked as an account tech at the university. Memorials: Urbana United Methodist Church.

Irma Jane Wienke, 87, of Champaign, died June 10 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She worked as a secretary at the university. Memorials: Trinity Lutheran Church.

Gerald Paul Wirtz, 79, died May 31 in Phoenix. He was a professor of ceramic engineering at the university for 25 years.
