Deaths

John “Jack” L. Hayes Jr., 90, of Monticello, Illinois, formerly of Mahomet, Illinois, and Champaign, died May 19 in Monticello. A memorial Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 W. Clark St., Champaign, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Champaign. A reception will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Champaign, from 1 to 6 p.m. He worked at the university until he retired at the age of 55.

Wilma J. Parsons, 89, of Villa Grove, Illinois, died May 27 at Tuscola Health Care Center in Tuscola, Illinois. She worked in the admissions office at the university.

Jim Schuster, 72, of Urbana, died May 18. He worked for University of Illinois Extension as a horticulture specialist, teacher and master gardener for over 40 years. In 2008, he began working for the university as a pesticide trainer, retiring in 2011. Memorials: Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
