Deaths

Carl Deal, 86, of Urbana, died Sept. 6 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. In 1965, he joined the faculty of the university as its first Latin American and Caribbean librarian, where he helped build the university’s Latin American collection into a premier academic repository. He also served for two years as the director of the university’s Center for Latin American Studies. He retired in 1995 after more than a decade as the director of Library Collections. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

William Dentler Ramm Jr., 62, of Rantoul, Illinois, died Sept. 17 at his home. He worked for the university. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac, Illinois. Masonic services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
