Deaths

Thomas B. “Tom” Berns, 72, of Urbana, died Feb. 19 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He taught surveying for the university as an adjunct instructor. He was associated with the 490-acre topographic survey of the U. of I. campus for the chilled water projects, the reconstruction of the Boneyard Creek from Wright Street to Lincoln Avenue and the site engineering for the Memorial Stadium renovations. Memorials: Urbana Park District for the Ambucs Park Project, 303 W. University Ave., Urbana, IL 61801, or to Clark-Lindsey Village, 101 W. Windsor Road, Urbana, IL 61802.

Richard “Dick” Blaney, 77, of Champaign, died Feb. 24 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He worked as the technical services supervisor and building manager at the Nanotechnology Laboratory at Illinois. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, Illinois. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. before the service. Memorials: American Macular Degeneration Foundation or Bright Focus Foundation.

Karen M. Dudas, 71, of Champaign, died Feb. 23. She worked in the University Library for 30 years until her retirement. Memorials: Champaign County Humane Society, 1911 E. Main St., Urbana, IL 61802.
