Deaths

Joanne Daugherty Hayes, 88, of Mahomet, Illinois, died March 21 at home. She retired from the university at age 55. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 W. Clark St., Champaign. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Mildred Alene Maddock Landreth, 91, of Mahomet, Illinois, formerly of St. Joseph, Illinois, and Decatur, Illinois, died March 20 in Urbana. She retired from the university. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at Freese Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m.

Vivian Phyllis Larson, 82, of Urbana, died March 15 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Urbana. She ran the food service at the Illini Union and spent 40 years working as a dietician at the university. A celebration of life open house will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at First Christian Church, 3601 S. Staley Road, Champaign. Participants are asked to wear orange and blue. Memorials: University of Illinois Foundation, 1305 W. Green St., Urbana, IL 61801.

Michele Henriette Miller, nee Rogivue, 93, of Urbana, died March 19 in Urbana. She taught French at the university and her voice can still be heard there on French instructional recordings. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at First Presbyterian Church in Urbana. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, the Charles W. Christie Foundation or the Parkland College Foundation.

Rosemary Rutledge, 78, of Covington, Indiana, formerly of Danville, Illinois, died March 14 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. She was a member of the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Memorials: Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana, IL 61801.

Nancy Jean Stark, 82, of Champaign, died March 18 at Villas West in Champaign. She worked at the university in Operations and Maintenance as a procedure and systems planner/systems manager. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association.
