Deaths

Martha JoAnn Milligan, 85, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Melvin, Illinois, died Sept. 4 in Clearwater. She was employed at the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Office in Melvin for many years, retiring in 1991. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Melvin United Methodist Church.

Charles William (Bill) Smith, 78, of Champaign, died Aug. 31. He was an instructor at the College of Veterinary Medicine and subsequently served as chief of small animal surgery and professor of veterinary clinical medicine, teaching orthopedic surgery. He received the Norden Outstanding Teacher Award three times and also was honored with the Campus Award for Excellence in Professional and Graduate Student Teaching. He retired in 2000. Memorials: Cornerstone Baptist Church in Savoy or the University of Illinois Veterinary Class of 1965 Scholarship Fund.
