Deaths

Paul D. Bermingham, 78, of Champaign, died March 2 at Amber Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Urbana. In 1960, he began working at the university as a cabinetmaker apprentice. During his 40-year career, he served as foreman of the mill, foreman of the carpenter shop and superintendent of Building Maintenance, now known as Facilities & Services. He retired in 2000, and in March 2001, he was honored with the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award. Memorials: St. Matthew Catholic Churchor the Alzheimer’s Association

William “Bill” G. Dean, 87, of Urbana, died March 4 at home. He retired from the university. A celebration of life is scheduled at American Legion Post 71, 107 N. Broadway Ave., Urbana, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Memorials: Carle Hospice.

Arthur J. Harper, 85, of Urbana, died March 2 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He retired from the physical plant at the university.

Lois Ann Allhands Harpst, 92, of Champaign, died March 1 at home. She worked for the university. A memorial service is scheduled at First Presbyterian Church, Champaign, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, with the Rev. Matt Matthews officiating. Memorials: St. Jude Children’s Hospitalor First Presbyterian Church of Champaign.
