Deaths

Mary Ellen “Mel” Farrell, 64, died Sept. 3 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She worked at the U. of I. for 39 years, retiring in 2012 as a systems coordinator for the Office of Planning and Budgeting. 

Christian “John” Mann Jr., 83, died Sept. 2 at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. He was a professor of geology at the U. of I. for 33 years, retiring in 1998. Memorials: Haskell Indian Nations University.

Jerry W. Robinson Jr., 83, died Aug. 31 at his home in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He was a professor of sociology for 23 years at the U. of I., retiring in 1994.

Jack Shook, 81, died Sept. 5 at Gowin Parc, Mattoon. He worked as an athletic facility attendant for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics at the U. of I. for 9 years, retiring in 1998.

Memorial service

A memorial service for Marjorie Steinkamp will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 2200 Philo Road, Urbana, at 11 a.m. Sept. 26. Steinkamp, 85, died Aug. 29 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was a professor of psychology and a research associate at the Children and Family Research Center at the U. of I. for 21 years, retiring in 1994.
