Anna Jane Bretzlaff, 96, died Aug. 30 in West Des Moines, Iowa. She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant at the U. of I. for 26 years, working in units that included the College of Education and the Illini Union. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church of Tolono, 104 E. Vine St., Tolono, IL 61880.

Thomas Newell Ewing Jr., 101, died Aug. 18 in Urbana. He was a professor of psychology and associate director of the Counseling Center. He worked at the U. of I. for 30 years, retiring in 1976. Memorials: Wesley United Methodist Church, Urbana.

Shirley Fieldbinder, 84, died Aug. 30 at Carle Foundation Hospital. She worked as a payroll clerk for Academic Human Resources at the U. of I. for 21 years, retiring in 1997. Memorials: Livlife Foundation or the Champaign County Humane Society.

Connie Kyse, 60, died Aug. 15 in Urbana. Kyse worked at the U. of I. for 23 years, retiring in 2010 as a secretary IV in the Office of the Registrar.

Betty Lyon, 87, died Aug. 24 at her Urbana home. She worked as a secretary at the U. of I. for the business office of the Athletic Association. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Homer Mitchem, 84, died Aug. 16 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Mitchem was a painter for University Housing for 26 years, retiring in 1991. Memorials: Carle Auxiliary Guest House, 602 W. Church St., Urbana, IL 61801.
