Deaths

Douglas Einar Applequist, 85, died Jan. 30 at his Champaign home. He was a professor of chemistry for 31 years, retiring in 1986 as professor emeritus.

Beth E. Morrison Carbonneau, 76, died Feb. 3 at Clark-Lindsey – Meadowbrook Health Center, Urbana. She worked at the U. of I. for 16 years, retiring in 2004 as an assistant director of the Regional Science Association International. Memorials: American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

Albert Ehmen, 96, died Jan. 31 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He worked at the U. of I. for 12 years, retiring in 1977 as a fieldworker for dairy science. Memorials: Gifford Country Health Care and Rehab, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville or the Royal American Legion.

Joan L. Mitchell, 68, died Dec. 2. She was a visiting professor and visiting scientist in the departments of geology and of electrical and computer engineering in 1996.

Jared Cleveland Risken, 68, died Jan. 25 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. He worked as an academic hourly from 1997 to 2004, mostly for the College of Education.
