Deaths

Kimbra Lisa Burris, 56, died April 13 at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. She worked at the U. of I. for nearly 26 years, most recently as a staff clerk for the Illinois State Geological Survey.

Gerald L. Fuoss, 76, died April 8 at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. He worked at the U. of I. for 30 years, retiring in 1998 as an electrician for the Division of Operation and Maintenance (now Facilities and Services). 

Danuta Maria Gorecka, 93, died March 29 at her Urbana home. She was a professor of library and information science for 19 years, retiring in 1992. Memorials: St. Patrick’s Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana, IL 61801, or any organization targeting the mitigation of post traumatic stress disorder, bullying or xenophobia.

Fred Monroe Gottheil, 84, died April 17 at his Urbana home. He was a professor of economics for 56 years, retiring in 2014 as professor emeritus. Memorials: Josh Gottheil Memorial Fund for Lymphoma Research, 509 E. Holmes St., Urbana, IL 61801; Champaign-Urbana Jewish Endowment Foundation, 503 E. John St., Champaign, IL 61820; or Urbana School District 116, 205 N. Race St., Urbana, IL 61801.

JoAnne Porter, 69, died April 9 at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. She had worked at the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center at the Prairie Research Institute for 11 years, most recently as a chief clerk. Memorials: American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

M. Mobin Shorish, 81, died April 12. He was a professor in the College of Education for 31 years, retiring in 2000. Memorials: Hospice Services at Sentara Healthcare of Harrisonburg, Virginia; the University of Virginia Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Center; or the >Cardiovascular Research Center at the Mayo Clinic
