Braj B. Kachru, 84, died July 29 in Urbana. He worked at the Center for Advanced Study as a professor of linguistics and was the Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Memorials: Kachru Fund for Linguistic Scholarship at the University of Illinois Foundation.
Plessa Edward Mast, 89, died Feb. 19 in Urbana. He became a professor of electrical engineering in 1958, retiring in 1987 as the associate head of the electrical engineering department. Rebecca Ann Schweighart, 61, of Savoy died July 28 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She worked for the Housing Division for 31 years, retiring in 2008.
