Deaths

James Canull, 84, of Sidney, Illinois, formerly of Toledo, Illinois, died Oct. 10 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. He was a university police officer. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 15 at Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo. A graveside funeral service will follow at the Toledo Cemetery.

Brenda Faul, 50, of Urbana, died Oct. 5 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She worked for the College of Law for 16 years, helping to manage and evolve its law clinic program. Memorials: Champaign County Humane Society.

Dixie Nell (Mayol) Heath, 43, of Mahomet, Illinois, died Oct. 5 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was an associate director at the Information Trust Institute.

Richard P. “Dick” Kesler, 88, of Savoy, Illinois, died Oct. 2 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Urbana. He became a faculty member of agricultural economics in 1965, becoming the assistant head and the director of extension for the department in 1979. Memorials: Savoy United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Rev. Dr. Steven Robert Shoemaker, 73, of Urbana, died Oct. 10 at his home. He retired as the director of the University YMCA. For many years, he taught one course a semester in religious studies. Memorials: University YMCA, 1001 S. Wright St., Champaign, IL 61820. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, 602 W. Green St., Urbana.
