Deaths

Ned Goldwasser, 97, died Dec. 14 at his Urbana home. He was a professor emeritus of physics, a vice chancellor of academic affairs and the dean of the Graduate School. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, United Negro College Fund or the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. A memorial service will take place in early spring.

James Edward Huffman, 62, of Urbana, formerly of Arcola, Illinois and Arthur, Illinois, died at home Dec. 16. He worked as a custodian at the university. Memorials: National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Robert “Bob” Mooney, 83, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Dec. 8. He served as a professor of architectural design for over 30 years at the School of Architecture and retired as a professor emeritus. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association.

Daniel Ivan Padberg, 85, of San Marcos, Texas, formerly of Champaign, died Dec. 12 near Bryan, Texas. He was the former head of the department of agricultural economics. Services will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in New Braunsfel, Texas, at 11 a.m. Jan. 2. Memorials: Padberg Educational Trust, Security Bank of the Ozarks, P.O. Box 8, Summersville, MO 65571.
