Deaths

Cody A. Breitenfeldt, 24, of Champaign, died Jan. 17 at his home. He was an instructor at the Fire Service Institute. Memorial donations for the funeral expense can be made to Longview Bank, P.O. Box 47, Ogden, IL 61859.

Hazel C. Cacioppo, 101, of Champaign, died Jan. 19 at the Champaign-Urbana Rehab Center in Savoy, Illinois. She retired after 20 years of service as a clerk typist at the University Library. Memorials: Holy Cross Catholic Church.

David M. Grothe, 70, of Savoy, Illinois, died Jan. 24. He worked with the principal investigators at the university on the project to design and build the Illiac IV supercomputer. This machine, installed at NASA with the network ARPA-Net, was the predecessor of today’s internet. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 27, followed by a memorial service at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Memorials: Eastern Illinois Foodbank.

Luther H. Holmes, 93, of Newman, Illinois, died Jan. 19 at the Newman Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was a carpenter at the university for 33 years. Memorials: Newman American Legion Post 201, 304 N. King St., Newman, IL 61942, Newman Christian Church, 107 W. Green St., Newman IL 61942 or the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

David F. Mulliken, 97, of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, died Jan. 20. He worked in the department of civil engineering.

Dan White, 63, of Champaign, died Jan. 22 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was a part-time supervisor in security for Illinois football games since 1996. Memorials: Great News Radio.
