Deaths

Lawrence Bouton, 85, died Feb. 1 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 208 W. University Ave., Champaign. A reception will follow from 5 to 7 p.m.

He was one of the first faculty members for the Master of Arts in teaching English as a second language program at the university. He also served twice as head of the Division of English as an International Language. He set up exchange programs in Spain and Costa Rica to give graduate students opportunities to teach abroad. He retired from the university in 2000.
