Deaths

Frances “Francie” Bridges, 66, of Urbana, died Feb. 24 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She worked as an administrative assistant with the Decision and Control Laboratory at Illinois for more than 25 years, until her retirement in 2006.

Richard Charles Meyer, 86, of Mahomet, Illinois died March 1 at his home. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Urbana at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. In 1963, he accepted a position at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Illinois. He taught the first course in virology on campus and for many years also taught in the School of Life Sciences. He became a professor emeritus in 1988. Memorials: Trinity Lutheran Church, 701 E. John Thomas Pfeffer, 81, of Urbana, died March 3. He was a professor of environmental engineering at Illinois from 1967-96. Memorials: Crisis Nursery or Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

John Thompson, 92, of Champaign, died Feb. 19 at Illini Heritage Nursing Home in Champaign.  He was a dedicated professor of geography and Latin American studies at Illinois for 33 years. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association.
