Dana Gillon, coordinator of special programs for the U. of. I., was honored with the 2016 APPA Pacesetter Award.
APPA, previously known as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, promotes leadership in educational facilities for professionals seeking to build their careers, transform their institutions and elevate the value and recognition of facilities in education. Pacesetter award recipients were recognized July 12 during the 2016 APPA Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
“The Pacesetter Award recognizes the contributions of the upcoming generation of education facilities professionals,” said Paul Wuebold, APPA’s vice president of professional affairs and the chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee. “Recipients have already demonstrated leadership capability at the local and regional chapter level and are poised to make major contributions to the profession of education facilities management in the coming years.”
Pacesetter recipients must be active members of APPA for a minimum of three years and participate in meetings or other functions. They demonstrate service to the association through contributions at the international, regional or chapter level that include but are not limited to: member of an official APPA committee, task force or program; through an official APPA training program or special project; or professional authorship or presentation for an APPA publication or educational conference.
Gillon has worked her way through all levels of Midwest APPA region membership and leadership from Big 10 and Friends to her current position as MAPPA treasurer. She became a member of the MAPPA Professional Development Committee in 2008 and became the committee’s chair in 2013. Gillon also has served as MAPPA’s representative to APPA’s Professional Development Committee.
