Colombo named interim dean of College of Law

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — John D. Colombo today was named interim dean of the College of Law at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The university Board of Trustees, meeting in Chicago, approved the appointment, effective immediately. His appointment expires Aug. 30, by which time a new dean is expected to have been named.

Colombo, a law professor at Illinois, will succeed Thomas M. Mengler, who stepped down as the law dean after nine years.

Colombo previously served as associate dean for academic affairs. A specialist in contracts and tax law, he earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from Illinois and joined the law faculty in 1988.
