College of Engineering faculty members honored

Paul Fischer, a professor of computer science and of mechanical science and engineering, and research colleague Misun Min at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory recently earned an R&D 100 Award, which recognizes top technologies of the year. Known as the “Oscars of Invention,” the awards are organized by R&D Magazine.

Aerospace engineering professor Scott White has been selected as a Fellow of the international Society of Engineering Science. White, a Willett Professor and the director of the recently created Center of Excellence in Self-healing, Regeneration and Structural Remodeling at Illinois, has gained international recognition for his work in autonomous materials.

 A collaborative research project led by a team including professor of aerospace engineering Scott White  and professor of materials science and engineering Nancy Sottos  was recognized with the Oil and Gas Award at the IChemE Global Awards 2016. The award recognizes the best project or process to demonstrate innovation in the oil and gas sector, efficient energy use or the development of energy production methods that reduce energy intensity.

Joseph Lyding, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and a member of Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology‘s nanoelectronics and nanomaterials group, was recently awarded the Foresight Institute Feynman Prize for experimental work. The Foresight Institute is a leading think tank and public interest organization focused on transformative future technologies.
