Children invited to take part in Japanese holiday celebration

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Children ages 3-10 are invited to celebrate Children’s Day, a traditional Japanese holiday, on May 2 at Japan House on the University of Illinois campus.

Traditional crafts and activities, free and open to all, will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. and will include ikebana flower arranging, origami and Japanese calligraphy.

Japan House is located at 2000 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana.

Daytime Emmy® Award-nominated talk show host and Illinois alumnus Sean Evans will serve as the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Commencement speaker on Saturday, May 16, in Gies Memorial Stadium. Evans graduated from Illinois with a degree in broadcast journalism in 2008.
