CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Children will be able to whip up a little fun and learn while they’re doing it Oct. 7-8 at the Chicago Academy of Sciences.
They’ll be able, for instance, to make a homemade version of Silly Putty out of corn, create hand cream from soybeans and make their own ice cream.
The hands-on and interactive educational exhibits at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum at the academy were created by professors and students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Other exhibits include a display by students from the UI Wildlife Medical Clinic of prey and other animals native to the Midwest. At the Secret Agent Worms demonstration, visitors can view a demonstration about soil erosion, then children will be able to create “worms” out of sand, silt and clay.
