Campus readies for ‘Unofficial’ on March 6

Campus administrators are taking steps to ensure safety and to minimize disruption to classes and campus operations during this year’s Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day on March 6.

The university does not support or condone this event, although many students and visitors to campus will participate it.

The Champaign, Urbana and U. of I. police departments, assisted by other local and state agencies, will patrol the campus district during the event. Emergency medical personnel also will be available.

In case of emergency, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 217-333-8911.

The Student Code, which addresses student responsibilities on campus, empowers instructors to ask disruptive students to leave class. Names of disruptive students should be reported to the Office for Student Conflict Resolution at 217-333-3680 or online.

If asking a disruptive student to leave class could escalate into a confrontation, you may seek assistance. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 6, teams of student affairs and academic affairs professionals will walk through and around buildings with classrooms and lecture halls where disruptions were experienced in the past. Team members, wearing university IDs, may be summoned to help. Teams will be prepared to document apparent code violations and to call university police, if necessary.

Atom-scale stencil patterns help nanoparticles take new shapes and learn new tricks
